The Refugee Week Margate Phoenix Cup 2026 brought together eight teams in a celebration of football, inclusion, community spirit, and support for refugees and asylum seekers. Green Kordofan was proud to participate in this successful event and engage with supporters, partners, and the wider community.
Fundraising Outcomes
Green Kordofan raised a total of £435.96 through sales and raffle tickets during the event.
In addition, we received a generous donation of £250 from Lewes Refugee Support Group, which was used to purchase football boots for our players!

Donations Received
We are grateful to Goods for Good for donating shoes and T-shirts to support our team and community. While the shoes were unfortunately not suitable for our players’ football needs, they will be redistributed through our partner organisation in Margate to support other asylum seekers and refugees across Kent.
Acknowledgements
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Mayor and Mayoress of Margate, Councillor Leo Britcher and Tamara S. Campbell, for their support of Green Kordofan and for helping raise awareness of the experiences and contributions of refugees within our community.

The Margate Phoenix Cup 2026 was a successful and positive community event that promoted inclusion, friendship, and solidarity through sport. The funds raised and donations received will directly support Green Kordofan’s activities and help refugee and asylum-seeking players participate safely and confidently in football.
The support shown during Refugee Week was particularly significant for Green Kordofan’s mission to support children and families from Sudan and connected to the Yida Refugee Camp. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed their time, resources, and encouragement. Together, we are helping create opportunities, hope, and a brighter future for some of the world’s most vulnerable young people.
